Thank you for reading and enjoying it!! I’ve actually gotten into nct like last year and it wasn’t really serious until it suddenly became very serious and i needed to know everything and i just consumed any content i could get my hands on to understand how these nct people work. Obviously it’s still a work in progress and i’m still finding out new things about them as one always will, but i’m glad that my take on markhyuck makes sense and fits the image they’ve shown us. 

I don’t think it was fake either! I agree with the weird gravitational pull, because while mark didn’t really know how to deal with haechan, there was no denying that he respected his talent and passion and there was also a certain amount of obsession between the two of them, of wanting what the other had and they didn’t. I don’t even know if i would call it the healthy kind, because i’m pretty sure haechan has considered at least Once how it would be to live inside mark’s body for a day, like to just slide under his skin and see things from that angle. 

The two of them have always had pretty different views on things, so besides, you know, the obvious frustration that comes from someone just Not being able to see your point of view, i think there was also a sort of jealousy there from not being able to see things like that. Like haechan complaining about mark spending too much time in the practice room and not being able to leave because they had to leave together and just wanting mark to give in and stop practicing and go home with him for once vs mark seeing just how nonchalant haechan always is and how he never gets stressed and still does so well and wanting to be able to just take things easy for once as well. 

But yeah, after some time away, mark became much softer towards haechan in general and ever since he’s been weirdly sensitive about haechan getting injured, because i’m sure that was the last thing mark ever expected. Like haechan’s not the type to be stupid and practice until he can’t perform anymore or things like that, so him getting hurt and having to be put on the sidelines, away from what is clearly his favourite thing: performing, was a low blow for haechan for obvious reasons, but also for mark who never thought he would have to go up on stage with haechan’s space next to him empty. 

I must admit the sun thing was so sappy disgusting romantic, which mark certainly has the tendency to be, but not usually towards haechan, so that was a big thing in the sense that mark was clearly going through it in a way he never had before. Like i’ve never really doubted that he loves haechan, they’re obviously close, but he’s very rarely like declarative about it in the way he was when haechan was out of the picture. 

Anyway, yeah, mark’s much better at dealing with haechan when he’s the one initiating things rather than haechan, and he’s generally pretty fond of haechan when he’s not messing with him, but he’s also comfortable enough around haechan that when he’s not into it, he’s simply going to let it show. 

For me, the differences between yumark and markhyuck in that aspect are that, first of all, the age positions are reversed, like mark is no longer the hyung in that relationship and while they’ve known each other for pretty much the same time and mark could make friends with a wall, yumark have actually started getting close way after debut and i do think that mark just wasn’t entirely sure how to react when this hyung started fawning over him. So there’s that aspect of not wanting to make things awkward between them, like he could easily push haechan away and tell him to stop because he knew he wouldn’t take it personally (even when he may have actually wanted him to take it personally lmao) but he couldn’t really do the same with yuta, because yet again, he was the hyung and mark didn’t really know how he would react. 

Second of all, i think i mentioned this last time too, but it’s also a matter of intent. I do think a lot of the more in your face yumark that we see is just straight up fanservice that mark’s just learned to play into, because when they’re not playing it up for the camera like in the relay cams when they were eating together they’re much easier to watch and more natural. But yuta’s fanservice is done obviously because he likes mark and finds it easy to do servicey acts with him, but also just for the sake of it, while haechan does fanservice a lot of times just to be annoying, just because he knows that’s a sure way to get under mark’s skin so obviously mark doesn’t want to give him the satisfaction. 

Anyway, I managed to get carried away once again like a clown, but i also find markhyuck’s relationship very interesting and the way they work so well despite looking like they Really wouldn’t at a first glance. Still it wasn’t a thing that happened overnight and it’s a relationship that has changed a lot over the course of the years and it really wouldn’t have gotten this far if they didn’t find each other interesting in the first place and wanted to get to know the other despite the clear signs that this wouldn’t work out.
